There are significant delays on the M5 near Bristol Airport tonight due to a police incident that has resulted in the closure of the motorway in both directions near Avonmouth. Commuters are advised to seek alternate routes as there are delays of 65 minutes northbound and 20 minutes southbound.
The M5 is currently closed between J18 and J19 southbound, and from J21 to J18 northbound. The closure is led by Avon & Somerset Police, as reported by National Highways. Traffic is being redirected southbound, causing delays of up to 60 minutes in both directions.
Reports indicate that drivers have been stuck for nearly two hours without any communication from authorities. The situation has led to a turnaround of vehicles on the M5. Normal traffic flow is not expected to resume until 11.30 pm, according to National Highways.
