King Charles Opts Against Buckingham Palace Residency

King Charles has made a significant decision not to reside at Buckingham Palace after a £369 million renovation, a move that has sparked concerns about the palace losing its charm, as per a royal expert.

Despite the extensive renovations funded by taxpayers, Charles has opted to keep Clarence House in London as his official residence alongside Queen Camilla. The monarch will maintain other residences in Scotland, Gloucestershire, and Norfolk, while using Windsor Castle in Berkshire.

There was an anticipation that the King would choose Buckingham Palace as his residence post-renovation due to its historical association with the late Queen, who had an apartment there.

This decision marks the end of almost two centuries of the monarch being headquartered at Buckingham Palace since Queen Victoria’s residence in 1837.

Tourists and visitors flock to the palace annually to catch a glimpse of the iconic building. Royal expert Jennie Bond believes that the palace’s allure may diminish with the King’s choice.

Jennie expressed concerns about the palace losing its magical appeal, as the public will not have the opportunity to witness the monarchy in residence at Buckingham Palace.

The renovations, which include replacing boilers, electrical cables, and pipes to reduce fire and flood risks, are expected to conclude next March after a decade-long project costing £369 million.

Charles, who has resided at Clarence House since 2003, will continue hosting various events at Buckingham Palace, such as garden parties, receptions, and ambassadorial audiences.

Jennie noted that Buckingham Palace, in her view, may evolve into a beloved museum piece while serving as a hub for the King’s administrative staff.
