Kawhi Leonard received a warm welcome from Raptors supporters in his first regular-season game back in Toronto. Putting up 23 points, six rebounds, and four steals, Leonard played a significant role in the Raptors’ dominant 135-92 victory over the Chicago Bulls during Toronto’s home opener. Expressing his gratitude for the fan support, Leonard noted the difference in atmosphere compared to preseason games. This marked Leonard’s official return to Toronto since his championship-winning season with the team in 2019.
Due to a delayed trade process, Leonard is still working on regaining his game shape. Coach Darko Rajakovic hinted at limiting the forward’s playing time, but Leonard, eager for more minutes, re-entered the game to further improve his performance. Leonard emphasized the importance of on-court experience for enhancing his skills and understanding team strategies.
A two-time NBA champion and Finals MVP, Leonard boasts an impressive career record. Despite a slightly off night against the Bulls, shooting 5 for 17 from the field, Leonard remains focused on progressing and adapting his game. Fans showed immense enthusiasm during Leonard’s return, reminiscing about the team’s past successes and looking forward to potential future achievements.
In attendance were notable figures like Serge Ibaka, Drake, and members of various Toronto sports teams, adding to the excitement of the game. The crowd erupted with cheers during the national anthem when Leonard appeared on the arena screens. Fans expressed high hopes for the new season, drawing parallels to the team’s championship run in 2019.
