Jet2 has issued a response following the death of a passenger on a flight bound for Manchester Airport. The passenger, identified as Callum Kerr, 35, from Warrington, was traveling on flight LS966 from Larnaca in Cyprus with his girlfriend on Sunday night. Witnesses reported that Mr. Kerr became disruptive during the flight, allegedly due to pre-flight alcohol consumption.
Police in Greater Manchester received a call at 2.25 am on Monday regarding a man behaving aggressively towards passengers and crew at the airport. Mr. Kerr was restrained by fellow passengers before police intervened. Despite being handcuffed and later found unresponsive, CPR was administered, and he was taken to the hospital where he passed away on Tuesday afternoon.
A spokesperson from Jet2 expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased passenger. The airline refrained from further comments as investigations are ongoing.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and stated that their investigation would scrutinize the actions of the officers involved in the incident. Meanwhile, the force’s Major Incident Team is looking into the circumstances surrounding the event.
Mr. Kerr, a father of three, was not under arrest, and no arrests were made in relation to the incident. Two reports of assault—one involving a passenger and the other a cabin crew member—have been filed. In a statement released through the police, Mr. Kerr’s family described him as a devoted family man and a sports enthusiast with a kind heart.
