“Infant Dies in Gateshead Home: Two in Custody”

Following concerns about a baby’s well-being, a man and a woman were apprehended at a residence in Gateshead. Regrettably, the infant passed away in the hospital.

Authorities responded to the property in Deckham on Thursday afternoon after receiving alerts from the ambulance service.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, the baby succumbed shortly after. Both individuals taken into custody have been released on bail, according to a report by Chronicle Live.

The man was arrested under suspicion of involvement in the child’s death, while the woman was arrested for alleged neglect.

In a statement, a spokesperson from Northumbria Police mentioned, “We received a report of a baby in distress in the Gateshead area yesterday afternoon. Tragically, despite efforts, the baby did not survive.”

“Our sympathies go out to the family during this difficult time. An immediate investigation was initiated, resulting in the arrest of two individuals linked to the incident.

“One individual faces charges related to the child’s demise, while the other is accused of neglect. Both have been granted police bail pending further inquiries.

“It is crucial to avoid speculation as the investigation is in its early stages. We urge the public to allow officers the necessary time to establish the facts.”
