“Hiker Killed in Horrifying Alligator Attack”

A tragic incident unfolded as a hiker perished in a horrifying alligator attack while cooling off in a river, with her boyfriend witnessing the gruesome event. The 31-year-old woman was hiking with her partner and a friend near Orlando, Florida, when they paused at the Econlockhatchee River for a break. While in the river’s shallow waters, an alligator suddenly attacked, clamping its jaws around both of the woman’s arms.

Despite frantic efforts by her boyfriend to free her from the alligator’s grip and calling emergency services, one of the woman’s arms was ripped off, and the other severely injured by the beast. According to wildlife official Grant Eller, the attack occurred around 1:30 pm while the group was kneeling in the river. The boyfriend struggled to save her arms from the alligator’s mouth during the terrifying ordeal.

In a distressing call obtained by NBC News, the woman’s boyfriend can be heard screaming and another witness describing the horrific scene to the dispatcher. The dispatcher was informed that both of the woman’s arms were severely injured, with one barely attached and the other entirely gone.

Despite efforts to get help and transport the woman to the hospital, she tragically passed away before reaching medical assistance. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed as authorities attempt to notify her family. Following the incident, Seminole County sheriff’s deputies, with the aid of a professional trapper, removed two large alligators near the site of the attack, measuring 13 and 12 feet in length. DNA samples from the alligators have been sent for analysis to identify the aggressor.

This fatal alligator attack is one of several recent incidents in central Florida, where alligators have been displaying heightened territorial behavior after their mating season.
