One individual has been hospitalized following a crane collapse at a harbor in England. Emergency teams from various services rushed to the Port of Tyne in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, where the incident involving a dockside crane occurred earlier today at approximately 1:02 pm.
Responding to the emergency, crews from North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance arrived at the scene after a person sustained injuries. A representative from North East Ambulance Service stated that they received a call regarding the injury at the Port of Tyne, South Shields, at 1:02 pm on July 19.
“We dispatched three ambulances, two clinical team leaders, a duty officer, three vehicles from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and received assistance from the Great North Air Ambulance Service. The injured person was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary,” mentioned the spokesperson.
Following the incident, one of the HART vehicles remains on standby to support the fire service. Images from the site depict damage to a crane and multiple containers on a BG Freight Line vessel.
An individual named Mike, who manages the YouTube channel Urbex Drone View, learned about the incident online and witnessed the aftermath as reported by ChronicleLive. As he approached from the north of the River Tyne, he observed the emergency response teams at the scene.
Describing the scene, Mike expressed, “Upon reaching the north side for drone footage, I encountered the twisted wreckage of the dockside crane, showcasing the impact of the incident. Beyond a line of emergency vehicles, I could see that several cargo containers on the BG Orange had shifted from their original positions, evident in the accompanying photos.”
Reflecting on the severity of the situation, Mike remarked, “It was truly distressing to witness. The scale of the emergency response indicated that a significant event had occurred. The presence of numerous emergency vehicles, including fire engines, ambulances, and reportedly two air ambulances, underscored the gravity of the situation.”
Continuing, the drone operator emphasized, “Witnessing the extensive damage underscored the seriousness of the incident. It is hard to fathom the experience of those working at the dock or aboard the vessel during that moment.”
He concluded by saying, “My thoughts are with all those impacted and their families, and I sincerely hope that everyone involved is safe and receives the necessary support.”
