A suspect believed to have carried out a “mass shooting” in Fort Smith, N.W.T., as reported by the RCMP, has been apprehended. The arrest took place around 4:30 a.m. MT on Sunday, according to a statement released by the RCMP. Charges are pending as the police continue their investigation.
The incident unfolded during the early hours of Saturday, coinciding with the conclusion of the local Fireweed Festival’s opening event. Following an altercation in the parking lot of Dirty O’Fergies, a local bar, three individuals sustained gunshot wounds. Subsequently, the community was placed on lockdown, under a shelter-in-place directive that lasted for more than 13 hours.
