A man in Saskatchewan has been sentenced to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to sexual assault and incest. The 58-year-old man, residing in a community near Saskatoon, committed these crimes against his daughter, starting when she was 14 and lasting until she was 17. The mother of the victim reported the incidents to the RCMP in 2025, revealing the ongoing sexual abuse by her husband.
During the sentencing hearing at the Saskatoon Court of King’s Bench, Crown prosecutor Lana Morelli disclosed the disturbing details. The mother had to wait for the assaults to stop before she could retire for the night, indicating the extent of the abuse in the household. The daughter recounted how her father threatened her into silence, creating a climate of fear and secrecy.
Further investigations uncovered additional victims within the family. The man also admitted to sexually assaulting his sister four decades ago and inappropriately touching another daughter without consent. The prosecution and defense jointly proposed a sentence of ten and a half years, emphasizing the importance of the guilty pleas in sparing the victims from the trauma of a trial.
Expressing remorse, the man acknowledged his failures and sought forgiveness from the court. Justice Krista Zerr acknowledged the significance of his admission in determining the sentence. She highlighted the emotional impact on the victims, including feelings of shame and manipulation, as depicted in their statements and artwork.
Zerr emphasized that the responsibility and shame lie solely with the perpetrator, hoping that the guilty plea and sentencing would assist the family in healing and holding the offender accountable for his actions.
