Father convicted in fatal drunk driving crash with infant; Evades authorities

A father is evading authorities following a conviction for causing the death of his infant in a drunk driving collision. Emmanuel Sakyi, 31, is accused of fleeing the scene after crashing into another vehicle while driving on the wrong side of the road in Milton Keynes in December 2022.

Tragically, his seven-month-old daughter, Emmanuela, who was not properly secured in a car seat and was being held by her mother in the front passenger seat, sustained severe injuries in the accident and later passed away in the hospital.

Sakyi, a resident of Milton Keynes, did not attend his trial at Aylesbury Crown Court and was found guilty by a unanimous jury after a brief deliberation. He was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison for causing death by dangerous driving.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Sakyi was driving under the influence of alcohol, well above the legal limit, and was driving recklessly by veering onto the opposing lane before colliding with another vehicle.

Prosecutors highlighted that Sakyi failed to respond to warning signals from the other driver and did not take necessary precautions for his daughter’s safety. Despite knowing he was at fault for the crash, Sakyi chose to flee the scene.

Authorities are now seeking the public’s assistance in locating Sakyi, who has been described as a black man of medium build, with black hair and brown eyes, standing around 5ft 3inches tall. Detective Sergeant Ed Crofts emphasized the seriousness of the case and urged anyone with information to contact the police immediately.

Sakyi, who denied the charges but was ultimately convicted, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and banned from driving for 18 years.
