Emergency services conduct major search at Knutsford lake

Emergency services, including police, fire crews, search and rescue teams, and paramedics, have mobilized at a park in Cheshire for a significant search mission. The operation was initiated at a lake near Knutsford following reports of a teenage boy going missing while swimming.

The alert was raised just before 5 pm, and social media images and videos depicted a substantial emergency presence at Pickmere Lake, with surrounding pathways cordoned off. The incident occurred when a teenage boy entered the water on the hottest day of the year and was subsequently reported missing.

Cheshire Police confirmed the situation, stating that they are conducting a search of the area with the assistance of the police helicopter and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. They advised the public to avoid the area while emergency services are active and urged anyone with information to contact Cheshire Police.

Five fire engines, along with a rapid response unit, technical rescue unit, and boat unit, were dispatched to the scene for a water rescue operation. Firefighters deployed a rescue boat and water rescue personnel to aid in the search for the missing individual.

This search effort follows a series of tragic incidents over the Bank holiday weekend, including the deaths of teenagers in open water. Families affected by these incidents have emphasized the dangers of swimming in open water during hot weather. In a separate incident, a body was recovered after a teenage boy went missing while cooling off at a country park in Rotherham.

Over the weekend, a 13-year-old boy drowned in Leadbeater Dam near Halifax, and in Ireland, a 15-year-old girl lost her life while swimming at Burrow Beach, Sutton, Dublin. Additionally, a teenage girl’s body was found at Kingsbury Water Park in Warwickshire. The community honored the victim, identified as Lil, with floral tributes at the site.

The authorities urge caution and awareness of water safety during the summer months to prevent further tragedies.
