Elderly Couple Eludes Care Facility, Refuses to Return

An elderly couple, Colin and Claudette Geraghty, who eloped from a care facility they dislike in Melbourne, Australia, have yet to return after a week. Their daughter, Linda McKelvie, is urging them to go back to Ryman Nellie Melba Retirement Village. The pair, married for 65 years, vanished on July 11 and were located in Maryborough, 118 miles away.

Despite being found, Colin, 89, and Claudette, 83, are now staying at a motel and are adamant about not going back to the nursing home. Linda described her father as clever and capable of outsmarting those trying to locate them. She emphasized the importance of the care home’s support for the couple.

Linda explained that her parents are staying put at the motel due to dissatisfaction with the care home’s arrangements. She praised their enduring love and mutual care for each other. The couple had previously attempted to escape, and Claudette, who requires constant care due to health issues, had been moved to an aged-care facility.

The sudden departure has left their family concerned for their well-being, with multiple pleas for them to return unanswered. Despite reassurances from Colin that they will be fine, the couple remains determined to stay away. Linda shared a message from Colin expressing his commitment to looking after Claudette.

The Geraghty couple’s defiant stance has left their family unsure of what will happen next, as they continue to resist returning to the care home.
