Families gathered at Trafalgar Square in London to celebrate Eid in the bright sunshine, with attendees from various religious backgrounds coming together for the event.
The festivities, led by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, featured musical acts such as Danish rapper Isam B, the London Arab Orchestra, and British musician Khaled Sadiq. Mr. Khan, in a message broadcast to the crowd, emphasized inclusivity by stating, “All, regardless of faith, race, or background are welcome” at the 20th edition of the event commemorating the conclusion of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting in Islam.
Participants, clad in vibrant attire, enjoyed the event in the historic square overlooked by Nelson’s Column. The celebration included food stalls, art displays, and a demonstration by a Muslim girls’ fencing team.
Deputy Mayor of London, Debbie Weekes-Bernard, denounced instances of Islamophobia witnessed at a recent rally in Trafalgar Square, contrasting it with the spirit of unity and acceptance displayed at Eid In The Square. She highlighted that the event served as a platform for people to unite and honor the Muslim communities in London.
The gathering offered live music performances by various artists, with Mayor Sadiq Khan’s message resonating through the speakers between sets. Weekes-Bernard emphasized that Eid In The Square encapsulated the true essence of London, promoting harmony and togetherness among diverse communities.
