EDF is providing complimentary fans and energy credit this summer to assist households facing difficulties in staying cool.
The energy company is introducing new Heatwave Relief Packs as part of a £1 million effort to aid vulnerable customers during periods of extreme summer heat, following the UK’s record-breaking June temperature of 37.7C. Amber and yellow heat health alerts are currently in effect across England, with temperatures forecasted to reach 35C.
Approximately 10,000 EDF customers struggling to maintain a cool home are eligible to benefit from this initiative. These households will receive personalized support valued at up to £100, which may include free fans and energy credits.
Identification of eligible customers will be done by EDF through its support teams, referrals from trusted partners and community organizations, and direct customer engagement channels.
Joe Souto, EDF’s Retail Director, emphasized the importance of supporting vulnerable households during high temperatures, stating that nobody should have to choose between their health and managing their budget. He highlighted the significance of evolving support for vulnerable customers as heatwaves become more frequent, with the Heatwave Relief Packs offering critical assistance without cost concerns.
In other news, energy bills have risen following a 13% increase in the Ofgem price cap on July 1, raising the yearly cost for typical direct debit-paying households from £1,641 to £1,862. The price cap will remain in effect until October, with expectations of households facing bills around £1,849 during that period.
Cornwall Insight warned that these higher bills will coincide with the return to regular heating usage as temperatures decrease.
