“Duchess of Sussex Skips Invictus Games Event in the UK”

The Duchess of Sussex has arrived in the UK for the first time in four years, but she did not attend an official event for Prince Harry’s Invictus Games today.

Meghan, aged 44, was expected to join Harry at the one-year countdown celebration in Birmingham. However, due to security concerns arising from the family being denied police protection, she and their children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, stayed at Althorp in Northants, owned by Harry’s uncle Earl Spencer, where Princess Diana is buried.

The disappointment followed Harry’s recent court battle loss against Associated Newspapers and his denied request to stay at Buckingham Palace. Despite this, Harry attended the event at the NEC alone, showcasing new Invictus Games events like pickleball and wheelchair rugby.

While Meghan was absent, Harry enthusiastically participated in the event, interacting with veterans and cheering on competitors. He also mentioned Meghan and their children in a TV interview during the event.

Next year’s Invictus Games in Birmingham, with 550 competitors from 25 nations, will focus on adaptive sports, playing a crucial role in the recovery journey of wounded service personnel and veterans.

Meghan is not expected to join public events during her visit, focusing on private family gatherings. This visit might include a reunion with King Charles, whom the Sussexes haven’t seen for four years due to their move to the US and strained relations with the royal family.
