As the summer World Cup unfolds in the USA, a doctor has issued a caution about the heightened risk of heart attacks and strokes among fans. With late-night matches extending pub hours into the early morning, supporters are advised of potential dangers stemming from a mix of sleep deprivation, stress, and alcohol consumption as excitement for the football tournament sweeps across the nation.

The World Cup journey kicks off with England facing Croatia on June 17 at 9pm UK time, while Scotland takes on Haiti on June 14 in a 2am match, suggesting that millions of fans may find themselves reveling, commiserating, and drinking well into the late hours.

Dr. Chun Tang, a prominent GP at Pall Mall Medical Group, has emphasized the physical toll that high-stakes football emotions can have on the body, particularly when combined with alcohol intake and lack of sufficient rest. Dr. Tang highlighted, “Major football events can trigger intense emotional reactions, leading to increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and surges in stress hormones, potentially raising the risk of chest pain, heart palpitations, and cardiac issues, especially for individuals with underlying health conditions.
