A disruptive passenger on a Jet2 flight from Cyprus to Manchester became critically ill after being restrained by cabin crew and fellow passengers. The man, in his 30s, had reportedly consumed alcohol heavily before boarding the five-hour flight from Larnaca with his girlfriend on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses stated that the man had been involved in a heated argument with his girlfriend, leading cabin crew to relocate her to a different seat. Subsequently, he began exhibiting disruptive behavior, including pacing the aisle, shouting at other passengers, and allegedly headbutting another traveler.
Multiple passengers intervened to restrain the unruly individual until the plane landed at Manchester Airport at 2:25 am on Monday. Upon arrival, police officers boarded the aircraft to find the man unresponsive.
Witnesses reported that the officers immediately administered CPR and later requested a defibrillator. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the man was transported to a hospital in a critical condition. Passengers were asked to remain on board to provide statements.
One passenger, accompanied by his partner and daughter, described the chaotic scene onboard, expressing concern for the safety of all passengers, especially the children. Another passenger recounted the escalating aggression of the disruptive individual, culminating in physical altercations.
Following the incident, authorities initiated an investigation into the man’s aggressive and disruptive behavior towards passengers and crew members. The man, still in his thirties, was hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A spokesperson for Jet2 confirmed the disruptive passenger incident on flight LS966 from Larnaca to Manchester, leading to a priority landing request. The airline stated that the passenger had been hospitalized and refrained from further comments pending the investigation.
