Dramatic bodycam footage shows a Florida deputy’s heroic efforts to rescue a woman who tragically lost her life in an alligator attack.
Brittany Clark, 31, of Orlando, was mauled while in the Econlockhatchee River at Little Big Econ State Forest, situated approximately 25 miles northeast of the city, on a Sunday. The incident occurred after Clark, accompanied by her boyfriend and a friend, took a break to swim during a hiking trip, as per reports.
The heart-wrenching video, released by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, depicts the deputy rushing through a wooded area to reach the riverbank where the victim was found. The deputy is seen applying a tourniquet to the victim’s wounds before the footage concludes, according to the Mirror US.
Prior to this, Clark’s boyfriend, Chance Allison, described the severity of the situation in a 911 call: “Both her arms are dislocated – off basically … one arm is completely off.”
Amidst frantic screams, Allison, 30, urgently sought assistance, mentioning his struggle to free the victim’s arms from the alligator’s grip and stressing the urgency due to significant blood loss.
Clark’s friend, who was present, described the injuries as “Terrible,” emphasizing the loss of both arms.
According to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) spokesperson Chad Weber, the attack occurred in shallow waters, around 3 feet deep, while the group was innocently enjoying their time, with no malicious intent.
Weber explained, “She suffered bites on both arms. The boyfriend made the distress call, attempting to save her from the alligator. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.”
Offering condolences, Weber extended sympathies to the victim’s family without disclosing her identity.
Two alligators, measuring 12ft and 13ft, were captured from the river, euthanised, and sent for DNA testing, as confirmed by authorities.
