“Daycare Worker and Children Struck in Oshawa Collision”

A daycare worker and five children were hit by a driver while on their usual walk in Oshawa on Wednesday morning, as reported by the Durham police. The incident occurred around 9:25 a.m. at the intersection of Ryerson Crescent and Sheridan Street, prompting a response from law enforcement following collision reports.

During a press briefing at the scene, Sgt. Nicholas Gluckstein disclosed that a two-year-old girl sustained severe, life-threatening injuries and was swiftly airlifted to a trauma center in the Toronto area via an Air Ornge helicopter. The remaining four children, aged between seven months and three years, were taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries treatment.

Additionally, a female daycare worker was also hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver involved in the accident stayed at the scene, cooperated with authorities, and was later transported to a local hospital for minor injuries evaluation.

According to Gluckstein, the vehicle hit the daycare worker and children while making a left turn as they were crossing the street from north to south, emphasizing that there were no stop signs at the location. Durham police announced the closure of the Ryerson Crescent and Sheridan Street intersection for further investigation.
