Dan Levy expressed his disapproval of Shane Gillis’s recent remarks on Saturday Night Live, particularly the derogatory language used towards women wearing short shorts to the gym. Without directly naming Gillis, Levy criticized the insensitivity of referring to women in such a derogatory manner during the show.
Gillis had commented on women wearing neon short-shorts at the gym, likening the attire to a fishing lure and suggesting that men are not allowed to look. Levy, known for his role in Schitt’s Creek, condemned the objectification of women, emphasizing that it is misogynistic to label women based on their clothing choices.
In response to the controversy, Levy took to Instagram to voice his disappointment, highlighting the importance of men standing up against such behavior to prevent the mistreatment of women. He stressed that the media’s portrayal of women as objects contributes to a culture where women are not respected.
The backlash against Gillis’s comments coincides with ongoing discussions surrounding the alleged gang rape at Cornell University and the support for the victim known as Jane Doe. Criticism from both SNL fans and social media users has intensified, with many condemning the use of derogatory language and the approval of such jokes on a public platform.
Gillis, who has faced previous controversies, including being fired from Saturday Night Live in 2019 for making homophobic remarks, has continued to spark debate with his controversial humor. Despite hosting the show multiple times since then, his recent remarks have reignited criticism of his behavior and language choices.
The incident involving Gillis’s comments on women’s attire at the gym is just one example of the controversial content featured in his recent Saturday Night Live appearance. From questionable jokes about his appearance to an accidental use of profanity during a sketch, Gillis’s performance has drawn mixed reactions from viewers and critics alike.
