Tributes pour in for an 11-year-old boy who passed away almost five months after a tragic house fire incident. The fire occurred in Clayton Green, Lancashire, just before midnight on January 6, prompting emergency response teams to rush to the scene. Kim Leighton and her son Cole were critically injured and hospitalized at Wythenshawe Hospital and Manchester Children’s Hospital.
Authorities confirmed in February that the fire was deemed accidental with no criminal involvement after extensive investigations. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to assist the family who lost everything in the blaze, raising over £32,000.
Sadly, Cole, the 11-year-old, succumbed to his injuries on May 29 after a prolonged and brave fight. Cole, who served as the under 12s captain at Charnock Richard FC, received a touching tribute from the club on their Facebook page.
Expressing deep sorrow, the club stated, “Charnock Richard FC mourns the tragic loss of our under 12s captain, Cole. Cole was a cherished member of our club since the age of four, endearing himself to teammates and others who knew him.”
The club further added, “His leadership both on and off the field, coupled with his vibrant spirit, talent, and joy, leaves an irreplaceable void in our community.”
Messages of condolences flooded social media platforms, with Sarah Ashton writing, “Rest in peace, Captain Cole. Our thoughts are with your family and the club.” Gaz Jones and Stuart Maddox also expressed heartfelt messages, remembering Cole as a fighter and a beloved young soul.
The outpouring of support and love for Cole and his family continues to resonate within the community, with many sharing fond memories of the young boy. Cole’s legacy as a courageous and spirited individual lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.
