Canada’s women’s wheelchair basketball team secured its second win at the world championships held in Ottawa by defeating Australia 79-30 at Carleton University. Kady Dandeneau from Pender Island, B.C., dominated with 33 points, six assists, and 12 rebounds. Arinn Young from St. Albert, Alta., contributed 20 points and 14 rebounds. The veteran duo’s stellar performance has propelled Canada to a comfortable 2-0 record in the 12-country women’s competition.
The Canadian team took an early lead, finishing the first quarter 17-10 ahead, which Australia couldn’t surpass throughout the game. Canada wrapped up the match with a strong 25-4 run in the fourth quarter. Shooting 51% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc, Canada showcased an impressive display of skills.
In their previous match, the Canadian women defeated Spain 76-51 at TD Place. Next, they will face China at TD Place on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Canadian men’s team also started their campaign with a victory, beating Morocco 74-51. They will play against Germany at Carleton University on Friday at 12 p.m. ET. Ottawa is hosting this year’s men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball world championships.
