Promise David is set to make his mark in the Premier League as Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed the signing of the Canadian forward on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. The agreement includes a reported obligation to purchase for $29.7 million US if specific criteria are satisfied.
Union Saint-Gilloise announced that David will be competing in the Premier League starting from the upcoming season, marking a record transfer fee for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old striker, who notched 41 goals in 82 matches during his two-year stint at Union, played a pivotal role in securing the club’s first league title in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with the club until June 2029 last year.
Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David managed to score a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. With four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian national team, the Brampton-born player initially debuted for Nigeria’s under-23 squad in October 2022 but switched allegiance to Canada in February 2025 following approval from FIFA after discussions with Canada coach Jesse Marsch.
David’s journey has taken him through Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before landing in Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience as valuable assets for the team’s upcoming campaign. Brighton, a consistent participant in the English top flight for nine seasons, concluded the previous Premier League season in eighth place.
