Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett, a pair from Ontario, achieved a significant victory by advancing to the men’s semifinals at the Elite16 beach volleyball tournament in Montreal. The 39th-ranked Canadian team defeated the top-ranked duo of Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson from Sweden with a score of 2-0 (21-19, 21-17) in the quarterfinals held at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Saturday.
Hailing from Richmond Hill and Wiarton, respectively, Schachter and Pickett also secured a win against Austria’s Alexander Horst and Paul Pascariuc earlier in the day. Their next challenge will be against the Brazilian team of Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and Andre Stein in the semifinals scheduled for Sunday morning.

Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson have previously secured the titles in 2023 and 2025, also winning a silver medal at the Olympics in the interim.
