Canada’s senior women’s flag football team, led by quarterback Sara Parker, secured their fourth world title and a spot in the 2028 Summer Olympics. Parker expressed immense pride in the team’s hard work and dedication following their 27-20 victory over the United States in Düsseldorf, Germany. Visiting CBC Sports headquarters in Toronto, Parker highlighted the significance of their achievement in paving the way for flag football’s future ahead of its Olympic debut in Los Angeles.
At 26 years old, Parker has been instrumental in growing the sport, having initiated programs at various educational institutions in Quebec. She emphasized the impact of Canada’s qualification for the 2028 Games on inspiring young athletes to dream big and strive for Olympic glory. Parker, named the tournament’s MVP for her exceptional performance, reflected on the overwhelming support she received post-championship.
Joining her at CBC Sports was Guillaume Béland, a key player on the Canadian national senior men’s team, who also clinched an Olympic berth with a bronze-medal win. Béland, a former tackle football player, described the emotional high of his game-saving interception against Mexico, securing their spot in the Olympics. He praised the team’s resilience and determination in the face of challenges during the competition.
