“Bull Gores Runner’s Face at Chaotic San Fermin Festival”

One person got injured in the face by a bull during a tumultuous bull run at Spain’s San Fermin festival. The event saw six bulls and accompanying steers charging through the crowded street course in Pamplona. The massive animals caused chaos, knocking down people and leading to multiple pileups during the brief run from the pen to the bull ring. A runner was gored in the face, while 12 others required medical attention for various injuries, as reported by the University of Navarra Hospital.

In a separate incident, a black bull separated from the group early in the 957-yard race, crashing into a group of individuals and hitting someone in the face with its horn. The exact moment of the goring was unclear. Many participants seemed unaware of the bulls approaching closely and simply pushed them aside instead of being attacked.

This bull run marked the fifth morning of the eight-day festival in northern Spain. This year’s celebration coincides with the 100th anniversary of the publication of Ernest Hemingway’s novel “The Sun Also Rises,” which brought international fame to the San Fermin festival.

Although the last fatality during the bull runs at San Fermin occurred in 2009, injuries like gorings and broken bones are frequent. This is partly due to the high number of inexperienced bull runners and foreign tourists participating alongside seasoned locals.
