A British man passed away after collapsing at a Greek hospital where he had accompanied his unwell wife for medical care. The 55-year-old tourist was on vacation with his spouse in Kalavryta, Achaea, in southern Greece when she suddenly fell ill and required urgent treatment at a local medical facility.
On Wednesday afternoon, the man drove his wife to Kalavryta Hospital, where healthcare professionals promptly attended to her, providing initial assistance as she was laid on a bed. Tragically, while standing by his wife’s side, the man collapsed, prompting doctors and nurses to swiftly administer CPR in an attempt to revive him.
Despite the hospital staff’s efforts, the man was pronounced dead a few minutes later, according to reports from the Ekathimerini newspaper. The exact cause of the man’s death remains undetermined, as per the daily Athens newspaper. Authorities plan to conduct an autopsy in the upcoming days to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his passing, while local police in Kalavryta have initiated a preliminary inquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, the woman has been discharged from the hospital after receiving brief treatment for her condition.
