Dozens of brides in Tenerife have faced disappointment as their wedding plans were shattered due to the bankruptcy of their wedding planner’s business. The affected brides had entrusted significant sums, with some reporting payments of up to £30,000 to Weddings in Tenerife SL, managed by Claire Lopez, a British national.
Around 20 couples were left in uncertainty after receiving an abrupt email on Friday, notifying them of the company’s insolvency. The impacted couples found themselves at risk of disrupted ceremonies, as the items they had paid for remained unfulfilled.
Among those affected were Kayleigh Billington and Phil Golding, a couple from Merseyside who had invested £15,000 towards their wedding arrangements with Ms. Lopez since 2023. Despite their excitement for the upcoming event on June 6, they were devastated by the news of the planner’s financial troubles.
The couple’s extensive planning and financial contributions were in vain as they discovered that most of the funds had not reached the intended suppliers. Efforts to reach Ms. Lopez proved futile, leaving them scrambling to salvage their wedding plans and inform their guests of the predicament.
Despite the setbacks, the couple managed to secure support from various suppliers and venues, enabling them to proceed with their wedding. However, the unexpected additional expenses incurred due to the situation have further strained their finances.
In a bid to mitigate the financial impact, the couple initiated a GoFundMe page to seek assistance. Reports suggest that other couples have also been affected by the situation, with some forced to cancel their Tenerife weddings and opt for alternative arrangements.
Ella Hudson and Sam Tuck, another couple affected by the ordeal, expressed their dismay after paying £16,000 for their wedding arrangements with Ms. Lopez. The unexpected turn of events has left them facing significant financial burdens to reorganize their special day.
The situation has raised concerns among the affected couples, prompting them to explore legal avenues to address the financial losses incurred. The Mirror has reached out to Ms. Lopez and Spanish authorities for comments on the matter.
