The Bank of Canada decided to maintain its benchmark interest rate at 2.25 per cent on Wednesday, in line with economists’ predictions. This marks the seventh consecutive time the central bank has kept the rate unchanged since December 2025. A recent Reuters survey of 35 economists conducted on Aug. 22 revealed unanimous expectations for the bank to hold its key rate steady. The Bank of Canada is set to make its next interest rate announcement on Oct. 28.
