“Arson Suspect Apprehended in Dovestone Wildfire”

Police apprehended a woman under suspicion of arson following a significant wildfire at moorland near Dovestone Reservoir. The blaze ignited at the popular location on the evening of July 11, triggering a major response.

Around 50 firefighters and 10 fire engines are anticipated to remain engaged in combatting the fire in the upcoming days. The Neighbourhood Policing Team of Greater Manchester Police disclosed the arrest of a 20-year-old woman for arson, who is currently under interrogation.

Authorities cautioned against circulating social media posts relating to the incident. Although the exact cause of the fire is yet to be officially determined, online videos suggest individuals setting off fireworks in the vicinity before the fire outbreak.

Detective Inspector Andrew Day from Oldham CID emphasized the ongoing police investigation and urged the public to refrain from speculation, advising them to report any relevant information. Sergeant Andy Holian of Saddleworth Neighbourhood expressed gratitude to the emergency services, particularly the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, for their dedicated efforts in containing the fire amidst challenging conditions.

Road closures persist at Holmfirth Road and Bank Lane, restricting access to Dovestone Reservoir. Public cooperation by avoiding the affected areas is encouraged to facilitate the emergency services’ operations.

For any details concerning the incident, individuals can reach out to Greater Manchester Police through their website or by dialing 101, quoting log number 3367 12/07/26.
