Authorities have apprehended an individual following the discovery of a deceased man in his 60s outside a residence engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders rushed to Wargon Crescent in Glenmore Park just before 1 am on Thursday in response to a reported fire. Upon arrival, they found the body of a man in his 60s with severe burns near the partially burning house.
During a media briefing, law enforcement revealed that the 36-year-old suspect taken into custody has a criminal record and is familiar to the police. It was disclosed that the arrested individual and the deceased older man were related. Superintendent Trent King, Nepean Police Area Commander, mentioned that forensic analysis would be conducted on the deceased to ascertain the precise cause of death.
Superintendent King clarified that there was no prior record of domestic violence between the two men and elaborated on the events, stating, “There seems to have been a confrontation between the two parties following a break-in at the property — the entrance was forcibly opened.”
Additionally, he noted, “An accelerant seems to have been utilized … however, there is currently no further information on the exact events inside the property.”
A statement from NSW police stated, “Following reports of a fire, a man has been arrested after a body was discovered at Glenmore Park early this morning. Responders were called to a residence on Wargon Crescent, Glenmore Park, around 12.50 am today (Thursday 16 July 2026).
“Officers from Nepean Police Area Command arrived at the scene and located the body of a man in front of a partly burning property. The man, believed to be in his 60s, is yet to be formally identified.
“Fire and Rescue NSW were present and extinguished the fire.
“A crime scene has been established, and detectives have initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. Following inquiries, a 36-year-old man was apprehended after being found inside a vehicle on Parkes Avenue, Werrington, around 6.45 am today (Thursday 16 July 2026).
“The man received treatment for minor injuries from NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Nepean Hospital under police supervision.
“As the investigation progresses, individuals with information, CCTV footage, or dashcam recordings are urged to contact Nepean Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
No charges have been filed at this time.
