“Armed Forces Set for Salary Increase Amid Rising Morale”

The armed forces are poised to receive a salary increase as morale within the military sees a positive upturn following a period of discontent during the previous administration.

The Sunday Mirror has learned that an above-inflation pay raise is imminent, coinciding with encouraging results from the Armed Forces Continuous Attitude Survey indicating a shift in morale.

A government insider remarked, “Our armed forces exemplify the best of Britain. With the world facing increased threats and instability, it is appropriate that they receive a salary boost commensurate with their dedication.”

Additionally, a representative from the Labour party noted, “While the Tories reduced real wages for our troops, we are rectifying this situation by enhancing their pay.”

Recent pay increments have ensured that all ranks, including entry-level personnel, now receive at least a living wage, a stark contrast to the previous administration’s policies.

The survey revealed that 45% of personnel express satisfaction with their overall service life, demonstrating a 3% increase from the previous year. Notably, satisfaction with basic pay, which sharply declined under the Tories, has now risen to 37%.

Under the last Labour government, satisfaction with service pay reached its peak at 52% in 2010. The upcoming pay raise will mark the third since Labour took office, with the initial increase being the most substantial in two decades.

Improvements in military housing have also been notable, with satisfaction in maintenance requests rising from 19% during the Tory era to 39% following a comprehensive defense housing initiative.

Last year, the Defense Secretary pledged to reclaim 36,000 military residences into public ownership and committed to upgrading 90% of military family homes. Progress has been swift, with over 1,200 substandard homes already renovated across the nation.

In response to the survey findings, Labour’s Defense Secretary John Healey MP emphasized the government’s commitment to boosting military morale by enhancing the lives of armed forces members and their families.

The MOD spokesperson confirmed that the Armed Forces’ Pay Review Body (AFPRB) has submitted its recommendations, with details of this year’s pay award set to be announced soon, retroactively effective from April 1, 2026.
