Ann Widdecombe’s family is preparing for her funeral service to be held at Buckfast Abbey, a place she cherished, as church officials disclosed. The former Cabinet Minister and spokesperson for Reform UK had visited the abbey just days before passing away on July 8 and was a regular attendee there.
A representative from Buckfast Abbey stated that they are in close coordination with the family for the funeral arrangements and will share more details when appropriate. They requested privacy for the family during this period.
Additionally, the statement mentioned that the Monastic Community of Buckfast, led by Fr Abbot, continues to keep Ann Widdecombe, her family, and loved ones in their prayers. The community expressed gratitude for the outpouring of sympathy and support they have received.
Following an announcement from Ms. Widdecombe’s family on Thursday, it was revealed that a private funeral service will be held soon, limited to close family members. A public memorial is planned for a later date, with specifics to be announced in the future.

Ms. Widdecombe was discovered deceased at her home in Haytor, Devon, approximately eight miles from Buckfast Abbey, where she suffered a fatal attack on July 9, believed to have occurred approximately 24 hours earlier.
Charges were brought against Joshua Kerry, 28, from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, for the murder of the former MP on Monday. Allegations in court suggested that Ms. Widdecombe was fatally struck with a hammer 21 times during lunch. A provisional trial date has been scheduled for June 2027.
During the hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court, it was revealed that Ms. Widdecombe was assaulted, robbed of her wallet, and left with head injuries before being discovered the next day at her remote residence on the outskirts of Dartmoor National Park.
Prosecutor Kashif Malik highlighted that concerns arose when Ms. Widdecombe missed a scheduled appearance on a TV show, prompting a search that led to the discovery of her injuries.
At an inquest in Exeter, Coroner Philip Spinney stated that Ms. Widdecombe was found unresponsive with visible injuries at her property, and the exact cause of death is yet to be determined.
