American softball athlete Cam Schiller has been handed a three-year suspension for using a steroid, as confirmed by the International Testing Agency on Wednesday. The ITA disclosed that Schiller tested positive during his participation in the 2025 Men’s Softball World Cup representing the United States, leading to the revocation of his bronze medal from the event as part of his penalty. Schiller’s suspension duration was shortened from four years to three after he accepted the doping violation without contest and acknowledged the repercussions, according to the agency.
Schiller’s athletic career began when he was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2012, followed by a stint in the minor leagues with the Spokane Indians before transitioning to softball. The ITA revealed that Schiller’s positive test at last year’s World Cup in Canada detected norandrosterone, a byproduct of the anabolic steroid nandrolone. Despite the doping controversy, Schiller showcased an impressive performance with a .450 batting average, earning a spot on the all-world team. Moreover, he played a key role in securing the bronze medal for the U.S. team at the previous men’s World Cup held in 2022 in New Zealand.
