A’ja Wilson showcased her basketball prowess on Thursday night, leading the Las Vegas Aces to a 94-83 victory over the Fever in the decisive Game 3 of the first round. Wilson, a four-time WNBA MVP, scored 36 points and secured 10 rebounds, putting aside a recent verbal altercation with a fan.
The Aces, seeded third and winners of three of the last four titles, advanced to face the victor of the Golden State-Dallas series. This marks the second consecutive year that Las Vegas has ended the Fever’s season. Caitlin Clark, who missed a game due to injury last year, acknowledged the Aces’ strong performance, praising their championship-caliber play.
Wilson delivered standout performances in Games 1 and 3, ensuring her confrontation with the fan would not define the series. She scored 21 points in the first half of Game 3 and finished with a total of 36 points. Chelsea Gray added 23 points, while Jackie Young contributed 18 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.
Although Clark scored 11 points in the first quarter for Indiana, she was limited to seven points for the remainder of the game. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 23 points, but struggled with shooting accuracy. Aliyah Boston recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds.
The game was intense, with both teams displaying physicality expected in a high-stakes playoff matchup. Technical fouls were called on players and coaches, reflecting the heated atmosphere. Despite the Aces building a lead in the third quarter, the Fever closed the gap in the final moments, keeping the outcome uncertain.
Stephanie Talbot of the Aces missed the game due to a leg injury, with Jewell Loyd stepping in and contributing 11 points. Coach Becky Hammon expressed uncertainty about Talbot’s future availability, emphasizing the importance of player health and readiness for upcoming games.
