Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her partner from Brazil, Luisa Stefani, secured a spot in the doubles semifinals of the Wuhan Open tennis tournament after defeating Mexico’s Giuliana Olmos and Estonia’s Ingrid Neel with a score of 7-6 (4), 6-4 on Friday. Despite making 22 unforced errors and facing nine break points during the match, the top-seeded duo managed to save seven break points and capitalized on three out of their six break-point opportunities against Olmos and Neel.
In the upcoming semifinals on Saturday at the WTA 1000 tournament, Dabrowski and Stefani will compete against the fifth-seeded pair, Nicole Melichar-Martinez of the United States and Cristina Bucsa of Spain. The Ottawa-Brazilian duo’s recent success includes a remarkable 6-1, 6-2 victory over top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Zhang Shuai in the China Open final last week, marking their fifth title of the season and seventh as a team.
