“White House Press Secretary’s Legal Credentials Questioned”

The new White House press secretary is under scrutiny regarding her background and qualifications as she assumes the role of representing the Trump administration publicly.

Katie Zacharia has consistently positioned herself as a lawyer while building her reputation as a commentator for conservative media platforms such as Fox News and Newsmax. Despite this, no concrete evidence has been presented by her or the White House confirming her passing of the bar exam in any state, including China where she previously worked for a major law firm.

This uncertainty surrounding President Donald Trump’s selection of Zacharia has raised eyebrows, especially after her lackluster debut at the podium earlier this week. Questions arose regarding her legal credentials, with an independent report suggesting she may not hold a valid license in any jurisdiction.

When pressed by reporters about her bar exam status, Zacharia vaguely mentioned her time in China without providing a clear response. The White House later released a statement from Zacharia detailing her educational background, indicating she obtained a bachelor’s degree from Pepperdine University in 2007 and a law degree from Pepperdine Caruso School of Law in 2011.

Steven Cheung, the White House communications director, defended Zacharia’s qualifications, praising her intelligence and suitability for the press secretary role. Zacharia’s LinkedIn profile highlights her current position as a senior communications adviser at the Trump Media & Technology Group and her brief tenure at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security earlier this year.

Previous roles listed on her profile include serving as an associate at the Zhong Lun Law Firm in Beijing and holding positions in fundraising and communications for charitable organizations. Notably, Zacharia was noted as the general counsel for Fix California, an organization associated with Richard Grenell within the Trump administration.

Despite inquiries, the law firm and organizations linked to Zacharia did not respond to requests for information about her past roles. Zacharia’s social media presence and author page further emphasize her background in law, political advocacy, and international corporate matters.

An earlier press release from NovaRed Mining Inc. announcing her advisory board appointment highlighted her experience in international legal and financial transactions, particularly during her time at the Zhong Lun Law Firm in Beijing.

While Trump lauded Zacharia’s credentials on social media, stating her academic achievements and media appearances, questions persisted about her bar membership status. Investigations revealed that Zacharia is not listed as a member of the California state bar, where she currently resides, raising concerns about potential misrepresentation.

In response to these findings, the Campaign for Accountability filed a complaint urging the State Bar of California to probe whether Zacharia unlawfully portrayed herself as a lawyer. The State Bar acknowledged the complaint but cited confidentiality regulations when questioned about any ongoing investigations.
