Delta police have confirmed the passing of another individual following the car crash at Tsawwassen Mills mall on September 30. Identified as 64-year-old Gwenyth Brigit Dwyn from South Delta, she succumbed to her injuries after being hospitalized post-accident. The tragic incident occurred during a house pole raising event that followed a Truth and Reconciliation Day walk organized by Tsawwassen First Nation, claiming two lives on-site, including Tsawwassen First Nation elders Virginia Splockton and wilapiya (Barb Joe).
Initial reports suggested that the driver may have encountered a medical emergency leading to the crash. However, investigators are yet to determine the definitive cause of the collision. One of the injured individuals has been discharged from the hospital and is presently recovering at home, as stated by the authorities.
Delta police expressed their condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and all those impacted by the unfortunate event. The department has been under scrutiny for the limited updates on the investigation, with the latest update before Wednesday being on October 1. Staff Sgt. Mike Whiteley emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough and objective examination of the evidence before drawing any conclusions.
The police mentioned that extensive evidence, including cellphone and video recordings, has been scrutinized alongside a comprehensive scene and collision analysis. Despite the ongoing investigation, there is no indication of a targeted or ideologically driven collision based on the evidence reviewed thus far. The possibility of a medical event affecting the driver prior to the crash remains a focal point of the investigation.
Individuals who witnessed the incident or have information about the vehicle’s movements before the crash are urged to reach out to Delta police to aid in the ongoing investigation.
