“Flávio Bolsonaro and Lula Head to Run-off Election”

Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro, a supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump, and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, former president of Brazil, are set to compete in a run-off election on October 25 for the presidency of Latin America’s largest economy. The electoral court in Brasília has confirmed that the incumbent president, aged 80 and pursuing his fourth non-consecutive term, as well as the 45-year-old son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, have not secured the required 50% or higher of the total vote for a first-round victory. The run-off election is scheduled for October 25, with the next presidential term commencing on January 5, 2027.
