“CBS Sports Ends Tony Romo Partnership Amid DUI Admission”

CBS Sports and Tony Romo have officially ended their association following Romo’s admission of guilt to charges of driving under the influence. Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, had been suspended since his arrest on July 23 in Wisconsin. He had been serving as the primary game analyst for CBS’ NFL coverage since 2017.

In a statement released on Friday, CBS Sports stated, “CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to go their separate ways. We appreciate Tony’s contributions over the past nine years and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

During Romo’s absence, analyst JJ Watt had filled in alongside play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson on CBS Sports’ top NFL team. Watt will continue in this role going forward, with all other CBS teams remaining unchanged.

Romo was apprehended after a traffic stop while driving on Interstate 43 in Wisconsin. He entered a plea of no contest to the charge of driving under the influence on September 1 and expressed regret for the actions that led to his arrest.

Court records in Milwaukee County revealed that Romo’s driving privileges were revoked for six months, and he was instructed to complete an alcohol evaluation program.

In a statement shared on Instagram on September 1, Romo acknowledged the challenges of the past month, stating, “It has been a difficult but transformative period that required me to acknowledge and take full responsibility for my mistakes – to God, to myself, to my family, and now to the public.”

Romo attributed his struggles to the numerous back surgeries that prompted his retirement from playing due to constant, severe pain. He admitted to developing a reliance on alcohol while attempting to wean off pain medications.

Taking accountability for his actions, Romo emphasized that he is collaborating with a team of medical professionals to address his health issues and implement necessary lifestyle changes.

The 46-year-old Romo, who earned four Pro Bowl selections during his playing career with the Dallas Cowboys from 2004 to 2016, has embarked on a new chapter following the conclusion of his stint with CBS Sports.
