A suspect linked to a violent shooting and extortion scheme against a prominent Surrey, B.C. radio station has been identified through documents obtained by CBC News. Ravinder Singh, allegedly involved in the attack on Radio Swift 1200 AM last year, is also believed to have played a key role in extortion cases in Ontario, resulting in charges against 17 individuals earlier this year.
According to records from the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB), obtained via an Access to Information request, 25-year-old Ravinder Singh is associated with a gang known as Hood 420, purportedly connected to Lawrence Bishnoi or utilizing his name to carry out threats across multiple provinces.
The IRB issued a deportation order against Ravinder Singh in July for organized criminal activities, linking him to shootings nationwide, including the incident at Radio Swift 1200 AM on September 29, 2025. Evidence presented during a hearing revealed a note on Singh’s phone matching the extortion demand sent to the radio station’s owner on behalf of Bishnoi and gang leader Goldy Dhillon.
Documents from the IRB raise concerns regarding the escape of Ravinder Singh’s alleged accomplice, Jagdeep Singh, wanted in connection with various shootings in Surrey and northern Alberta. The escape occurred during a medical assessment at Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, where Jagdeep Singh complained of drug withdrawal symptoms to evade custody.
Ravinder Singh, facing weapons and conspiracy charges, has not been charged specifically in the Swift 1200 AM shootings. However, discussions have been held to potentially stay his criminal charges for deportation purposes. Despite representing himself at immigration proceedings, Singh declined to respond to the accusations against him.
Ravinder Singh, known by the alias “Coach,” entered Canada in 2019 on a study permit and later obtained a work permit. Further investigations revealed his involvement in extortion-related incidents in Ontario and Alberta, linking him to a series of shootings and extortion threats.
Authorities have made connections between Ravinder Singh and the Hood 420 gang, citing incriminating evidence found on his phone, including messages detailing extortion events and instructions for shooters. The ongoing investigations have led to multiple charges against Singh and his associates in various extortion-related cases across Canada.
As the legal proceedings continue, the impacted community, including Swift 1200 AM host Jinny Sims, emphasizes the need for swift action and updates from law enforcement to address the fear and disruption caused by the extortion activities.
