Military Time surged ahead of Brachetto just before the finish line to secure victory in the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie, Ontario. Piloted by 22-year-old jockey Fraser Aebly, Military Time initially raced in third place but made a powerful move to overtake Brachetto and Keepmypowderdry at the Fort Erie Racetrack.
Aebly expressed his excitement after the race, stating, “He was fighting for me the whole race, it was crazy.” The Prince of Wales Stakes, the second event in the Canadian Triple Crown series, kept spectators enthralled as the field of eight horses remained closely grouped. As they approached the final stretch, Military Time, Brachetto, and Keepmypowderdry vied for the lead, with Military Time ultimately showcasing superior speed and crossing the finish line first in 1.56.
Reflecting on the race, Aebly shared, “He jumped well at the start, and I aimed to maintain a forward position considering the track conditions. We secured our spot, and he ran smoothly for me.” Despite facing tough competition, Aebly’s strategy paid off as Military Time maintained its pace and clinched the victory.
In a competitive race, Brachetto claimed the second position, followed by Buium in third place, while Keepmypowderdry finished fourth among the eight contenders. Luster, who triumphed over Military Time in the previous $1-million King’s Plate at Woodbine Racetrack, did not participate in the Prince of Wales Stakes, leaving Wando as the most recent horse to achieve the Canadian Triple Crown in 2003.
