“Ferry Capsizes Near Northern Cyprus, No Casualties Reported”

A ferry with over 260 passengers onboard overturned near northern Cyprus on Sunday, as per reports from Turkish media. The ferry, designed in a catamaran style, was en route from Kyrenia port, also known as Girne in the northern part of Cyprus, to the Turkish port of Tasucu in Mersin province. Fortunately, there have been no casualties reported thus far.

The incident occurred a few kilometers off the coast when the ferry began to take on water, according to the Turkish state-run TRT news channel. Erhan Arikli, the Transportation Minister of Northern Cyprus, confirmed to TRT that the ship had capsized and that rescue teams were already at the site.

Various companies operate ferries along the popular route between Kyrenia and Tasucu, but it is currently uncertain which company was managing the capsized ferry. Footage from the location depicts individuals wearing life jackets floating in the water near the overturned vessel.
