Finance Canada has decided to exclude seafood and fish items from its list of retaliatory tariffs following input from Canadian industries to prevent broader negative economic impacts. The announcement of this change was made by Finance Canada on Wednesday evening without providing additional specifics.
In response to the recent tariffs implemented by U.S. President Donald Trump, Ottawa’s measures involve doubling duties on American steel and aluminum goods from 25 to 50 percent. Additionally, tariffs ranging between 15 and 50 percent will be applied to a variety of other American exports, encompassing clothing, appliances, and dairy products.
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has warned that any further retaliatory actions from Canada may prompt a response from the Trump administration.
