Former Member of Parliament Inky Mark, initially arrested last month on 12 weapons offenses, is facing an additional 26 charges following the discovery of 445 firearms and 26.5 kilograms of explosives at his residence in Manitoba. The 78-year-old was taken into custody again on August 12 as part of an ongoing police investigation.
During a search of his home near Dauphin in western Manitoba on July 7, Mark was first charged with various weapons-related offenses, including firearms trafficking, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, unsafe firearms storage, careless use of firearms, and possession of a prohibited device. After further examination, authorities revealed that a total of 445 firearms were seized from Mark’s property, with 295 being stored unsafely and 10 classified as prohibited.
In addition to the firearms, police also confiscated an antique cannon and ammunition from Mark’s residence. Furthermore, law enforcement officers discovered 26.5 kilograms of explosives, exceeding the legal possession limit for licensed individuals.
The recent charges against Mark include weapons trafficking, possession of prohibited weapons, possession of restricted firearms with ammunition, possession of unauthorized firearms, possession of firearms with tampered serial numbers, failure to report lost firearms, and exceeding the legal limit for explosives. The total number of charges now stands at 38.
Mark, a former Member of Parliament who represented the Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa riding, was first elected in 1997 and resigned in 2010. He contested the seat independently in 2015 after serving with various political parties. Before his parliamentary career, Mark served as the mayor of Dauphin in 1994 and ran for the position unsuccessfully in 2010.
