“Canadian Beach Volleyball Pair Settles for Bronze in Montreal Elite16”

The Canadian beach volleyball pair of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson faced a defeat in the semifinals of the Montreal Elite16 competition, losing to Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta with a score of 21-19, 20-22, 15-7 on Sunday. Wilkerson was the top scorer for Canada, contributing 29 points, which included 20 kills, eight blocks, and a serve point, while Humana-Paredes added 13 points with 12 kills and a serve point.

Despite the loss dashing their hopes of a three-peat victory, the Canadian duo will compete for the bronze medal against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann later in the day. Viewers can catch the live broadcast on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem.

In previous years, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson clinched the Montreal titles in 2023 and 2025, with an Olympic silver medal in between. On the men’s side, Canada’s Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett caused an upset by defeating the world No. 1s Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson to advance to the semifinals at the FIVB Beach Pro Tour event.

However, the 39th-ranked Canadian pair fell short in the semifinals on Sunday morning, losing 2-1 (21-12, 16-21, 16-14) to Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein. Schachter and Pickett will now face off against Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen in the battle for third place.
