“Morrisons Introduces AI Checkout Tech for Faster Shopping”

Morrisons is set to implement AI-driven checkout technology in 200 of its stores to streamline the shopping experience and reduce waiting times. The supermarket’s new Evercheck system utilizes real-time computer vision to compare scanned items with those in a shopper’s basket. If a discrepancy is detected, a gentle on-screen prompt guides the customer to address the issue.

According to Morrisons, this innovative technology, developed by Everseen, aims to minimize disruptions, shorten queues, and decrease the need for staff assistance during checkout. The software will enhance the existing self-checkout systems rather than replacing them entirely.

Francesca Bezoari, Morrisons’ Store Support Office Director, expressed excitement over the partnership with Everseen, emphasizing the importance of providing fast and seamless checkout experiences while maintaining exceptional service standards.

Everseen highlighted that the AI technology does not involve facial recognition and focuses on analyzing transactions for accuracy rather than identifying individuals. By cross-referencing scanned items with basket contents, the system prompts shoppers to rectify any potential errors efficiently.

Joe White, CEO of Everseen, emphasized the positive impact of the AI solution on customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. Everseen’s Vision AI platform is proven to enhance service quality without compromising customer experience.

The technology, already operational in over 150,000 checkouts and 10,000 stores globally, is expected to cover a significant portion of Morrisons’ larger-store estate. While specific rollout details remain undisclosed, the implementation is part of Morrisons’ ongoing commitment to improving customer service and operational performance through cutting-edge technology.
