Tourist Fatally Struck in Costa Brava Boat Collision

A tragic incident occurred on the Costa Brava as a tourist lost his life in a collision between a boat carrying up to 12 individuals and the jet ski he was riding with his son. The unfortunate event took place in Roses, Girona, prompting a police investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the man on the jet ski passed away due to the crash, leading to the arrest of the boat’s driver on suspicion of reckless homicide. The deceased, a 54-year-old French national, was accompanied by his 52-year-old compatriot, who was taken into custody.

The collision happened at approximately 4:45 pm near the Santa Margarida urbanisation. Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene, including Maritime Rescue crews, paramedics, an air ambulance, ground ambulances, local police, and Spain’s Civil Guard.

Rescuers located the jet ski and administered CPR to the injured man before transferring him to shore via a rescue vessel. Despite the efforts of paramedics upon reaching the port, the victim succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, his son and the occupants of the boat emerged unscathed.

The Judicial Police Unit of the Civil Guard in Girona has initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Statements have been obtained from the boat’s occupants and the deceased’s son. Additionally, breath and drug tests are being conducted on all involved parties, including the boat’s crew and the victim’s son who was on the jet ski.
