A man dressed as the ‘Grim Reaper’ who climbed onto the roof of a hospital in an attempt to scare people has been fined. Leon Gillespie, 26, admitted to causing a disturbance without a valid reason at an NHS facility. Llandudno Magistrates imposed a £200 penalty on him. Gillespie, wearing the spooky outfit, was caught on the hospital roof, where he menaced staff and visitors.
Sporting a long blade, Gillespie created a commotion on top of the hospital building. He donned a black attire resembling a crow costume, surprising hospital visitors with his presence above Ysbyty Glan Clwyd hospital in St Asaph, Denbighshire, on June 6.
Law enforcement and fire service responded to the scene, eventually coaxing Gillespie down from the roof. Reports indicated a man in full black attire standing above the hospital entrance. Gillespie did not provide any explanation for his alarming conduct.
Additionally, Gillespie was involved in theft incidents, stealing cat supplies from a Pets at Home store and food and beverages from a Sainsbury’s in Llandudno. The court ordered him to pay fines totaling £250.
A representative from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board reiterated their zero tolerance policy towards disruptive behavior at their hospital premises.
During the incident, a spokesperson for North Wales Police stated that Gillespie had caused a disturbance without a valid reason and had refused to comply with authorities’ instructions to leave the premises.
