A powerful 4.3-magnitude earthquake shook parts of Italy, with the epicenter situated merely four miles from the historical city of Pisa. The tremor occurred at approximately 10:15 am local time, affecting northern Tuscany, including Lucca, Pisa, and Massa-Carrara. Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported that the epicenter was close to San Piero a Grado, just seven kilometers from Pisa, at a shallow depth of about eight kilometers, contributing to its widespread impact across northern Tuscany.
Eugenio Giani, the regional governor of Tuscany, confirmed the earthquake and stated that checks were ongoing with the regional emergency system. A second tremor of magnitude 3.2 was noted at 1:04 pm, with the epicenter located approximately five kilometers from Pisa at a depth of 11 kilometers. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, although three families were evacuated from a building in San Giuliano Terme, as per local reports.
As a precautionary measure, the train service in Pisa was suspended for about four hours. This incident underscores the importance of staying informed during such events.
